    Novice

    In this level, swimmers improve their freestyle and backstroke technique through various drills, and are introduced to breaststroke kick and dolphin kick. Novice swimmers also work on wall push-offs, turns and dives.

    Requirements: 25-yard freestyle with side breathing and 25-yard backstroke.

    Practice Schedule: 

    • Monday 5:00-5:55 pm
    • Tuesday 4:00-4:55 pm
    • Wednesday 5:00-5:55 pm
    • Thursday 4:00-4:55 pm

    Attendance: Novice swimmers are expected to attend two 1-hour practices per week. You may choose to attend any two of the four offered practice times.

    Bronze

    In this level, swimmers are introduced to the pulling motion and timing for both breaststroke and butterfly. Bronze swimmers learn to dive from the starting blocks, legal turns and finishes to get ready for their first swim meet (competition).

    Requirements: 50-yard freestyle, 25-yard backstroke, legal breaststroke kick and legal dolphin kick. 

    Practice Schedule: Monday through Friday 4:00-4:55 pm

    Attendance: Bronze swimmers are expected to attend three 1-hour practices per week. You may choose to attend any three of the five offered practice times.

    Advanced Bronze

    Swimmers in this group can swim all four strokes with correct and legal technique, can swim a 100 freestyle in under 2:00, and show great discipline during practice. Practice schedule, attendance and gear are the same as for Bronze.


    Silver

    Swimmers in this group compete regularly at Y swim meets and work to increase their aerobic capacity in all four strokes. Silver swimmers learn to become more efficient by increasing the number of underwater dolphin kicks in butterfly, backstroke and freestyle. 

    Requirements: 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard backstroke and 50-yard breaststroke with legal turns and finishes. Must be 9 or older.

    Practice Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 4:15-5:45 pm

    Attendance: Silver swimmers are expected to attend three 1.5-hour practices per week.

    Gold

    Swimmers in this group compete regularly at Y swim meets and are strongly encouraged to participate in USA swim meets. While continuing to increase their aerobic capacity, Gold swimmers also learn to take less stroke cycles while maintaining the same times or faster as in Silver. 

    Requirements: 6x100 freestyle on a 2-minute interval. Legal 200 IM under 4 minutes.

    Practice Schedule: 

    • During school year: Monday through Friday 5:00-7:00 pm.
    • During summer: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 5:00-7:00 pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-11:00 am.

    Attendance: Gold swimmers are expected to attend at least three 2-hour practices per week, but we strongly recommend attending four or five.
